Congresswoman Lauren Underwood is Lowering Costs and Fighting Inflation
"Every day, I hear from constituents about the financial stress and anxiety they experience as a result of rising prices, from groceries to gas, and I understand the worry this creates."
"I'm listening and taking action in Congress to fight inflation and lower costs for our community."
Congresswoman Underwood is working to lower costs, so no family worries about affording the essentials.
As we fight inflation and strengthen our supply chains, Congresswoman Underwood is putting more money back in middle-class families' pockets.
What Congresswoman Underwood has done to lower costs:
- Passed theHealth Care Affordability Act in the American Rescue Plan, which reduces out-of-pocket health coverage costs by an average of $2,400 each year per family.
- Lowered prescription drug costs through the Lower Insulin Costs Now Act, which makes lower-cost generic insulin available sooner.
- Introduced legislation to provide $100 monthly rebates to help families afford the rising cost of gas.
- Expanded the Child Tax Credit which put more money back in parents' pockets across the district. This tax cut for families with children returned $213 million for families who live in the 14th and reduced child poverty nationally by 40%.
While Americans are struggling with high costs and inflation, corporations are exploiting consumers by raisingprices and announcing record profits. Their greed cannot be tolerated. That's why Congresswoman Underwood worked with Congressman John Garamendi (CA-03), to call for congressional actions, investigations and hearings to investigate alleged price gouging by oil companies and fight corporate corruption.
"As we fight inflation, I am committed to further strengthening our growing economy by ensuring consumers have more choices, more small businesses can compete, and more goods are being made in America."
What Congresswoman Underwood has done to build a growing economy:
- Voted to pass the American Rescue Plan and Covid Relief bills, which provided ove $1 billion in relief for small businesses in the 14th and over $38 million for Restaurant Revitalization Fund grants.
- Delivered$17 billion ininvestments for Illinois' infrastructure through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which will create a foundation for long-term economic growth and improve roads and bridges, water, transportation, and broadband access while creating good-paying jobs across in Illinois.
- Voted for the America COMPETES Act, which would make more goods in America by investing in the American manufacturing sector, creating good-paying jobs and reducing our nation's dependence on foreign supply chains.
