Underwood Secures $363,766 in Funding for Ottawa and Bolingbrook Fire Departments

WASHINGTON — This week, Representative Lauren Underwood announced a new round of federal funding she has secured for the City of Ottawa and the Village of Bolingbrook.

As Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Homeland Security Subcommittee, Underwood has made securing DHS funding for firefighters and first responders in northern Illinois a top priority. The following funds will support programs in the 14th District with federal resources:

City of Ottawa, Illinois - $272,857

The City of Ottawa will receive $272,857 in federal funding from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program. This funding will be used to provide critically needed resources that equip and train emergency personnel to recognized standards, enhance operational efficiencies, foster interoperability, and support community resilience.

Rep. Underwood has a long history of advocating for AFG grants on behalf of local fire departments, wrote a letter of support on behalf of the Ottawa Fire Department, and helped secure this funding through the FY 2023 Assistance to Firefighters Grant program.

Village of Bolingbrook, Illinois - $90,909

The Village of Bolingbrook will receive $90,909 in federal funding from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program.This funding will be used to provide critically needed resources that equip and train emergency personnel to recognized standards, enhance operational efficiencies, foster interoperability, and support community resilience.
