Biden, Underwood Emphasize Their Commitment to Lowering the Cost of Health Care

November 5, 2022

JOLIET – Today, Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (IL-14) joined President Joe Biden at Jones Elementary School in Joliet, Illinois to discuss their work to protect Social Security and Medicare and lower health care and prescription drug costs.

“Medicare and Social Security belong to us all,” said Underwood. “As a result, these are programs that generations of Americans have been able to count on for retirement security, health care, and a life built on dignity and respect. And they are worth defending, strengthening, and protecting for generations to come.”

Underwood and President Biden also highlighted their work to make health care affordable and accessible for millions of Americans through the Inflation Reduction Act. The Inflation Reduction Act extends tax credits from Underwood’s signature legislation, the Health Care Affordability Act, and lowers health care costs by an average of $2,400 per year for a family of four. Joining Underwood and President Biden were Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), and Underwood’s constituent Audree Hall.

“I’m forever grateful for Representative Underwood and President Biden. I know they’ll protect Social Security and Medicare for the families who are counting on those programs – just like they protected health care for me and my family at a time when we needed it most,” said Hall.
