Naperville Nurse to Join Rep. Underwood as Honored Guest at State of the Union Address
WASHINGTON – Today, Representative Lauren Underwood (IL-14) announced her Honored Guest for President Biden’s State of the Union Address to Congress on Tuesday, February 7th. Cindy Mundell of Naperville, Illinois, is a Cardiac ICU Nurse who retired after more than 36 years of service.
“People like Cindy represent the very best of our community in northern Illinois,” said Underwood. “A dedicated cardiac nurse with more than 36 years of service, Cindy is the definition of a helper. She exemplifies the values that House Democrats are so proud to work for and defend, and I could not be more honored to welcome Cindy to the Capitol this Tuesday.”
“I am just so thrilled to be joining Rep. Underwood at the State of the Union address in Washington this Tuesday to hear from President Biden about the progress we have made and the work we have to do to defend the values and programs we hold so dear,” said Mundell. “I earned my retirement. It’s unconscionable to me that Republicans are working to take that away, but I am so thankful to President Biden and Rep. Underwood for their work to protect it.”
Mundell is a Medicare and Social Security beneficiary who earned the right to retire with dignity after more than three decades of service to her community. As Republicans work to implement devastating cuts to these programs that seniors are counting on, Democrats are defending them.
The State of the Union Address will highlight the achievements that House Democrats and President Biden have delivered over the past two years and the work that Democrats are doing to safeguard American values from extreme Republicans.
