April 9, 2020

Advocates for health care affordability, direct relief payments to individuals, increased availability of PPE and testing, and additional grants and loans for small businesses

WASHINGTON— Today, Representative Lauren Underwood (IL-14) released her ‘CARES 2' coronavirus aid package priorities to help Illinois communities and families impacted by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Underwood's priorities include making health care more affordable through the Health Care Affordability Act (H.R. 1868), direct relief payments for individuals and dependents, increased access to personal protective equipment (PPE) and coronavirus testing, and additional grants and loans for small businesses.

"As Congress works on the next relief package, I'm working directly with members of our community, state and local officials, business owners, and health care professionals to ensure the needs of our community are met," said Underwood. "My top priority is protecting the safety of our community and ensuring that we can come back from this pandemic stronger than before. This includes expanding access to affordable health care, additional direct payments to families, and delivering urgently needed personal protective gear to health care professionals on the front lines of fighting the coronavirus."
