Underwood Statement Following Ceasefire Of Israel-Hamas Conflict

WASHINGTON—Representative Lauren Underwood (IL-14) released the following statement regarding the hostage release and ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas:

“Today I join the many families across IL-14 and around the world in celebrating the ceasefire announcement and hope that it makes way for a permanent, lasting peace in Gaza. 

Across our community, many have felt the devastation of this conflict personally as we’ve mourned the lives of the Americans who have been killed and shared anguish with the families of the hostages as they await news of their loved ones' safe return. We’ve felt deep pain as we’ve witnessed the horrific and needless suffering in Gaza, and we have survived the unacceptable hate and violence that has targeted our Jewish and Muslim neighbors.

May our commitment to peace, stability, security, and human rights guide American leadership in the challenging days ahead as this diplomatic success makes way for rebuilding Gaza.”
