Underwood Statement on Supreme Court Decision Blocking Trump Administration from Cancelling DACA

June 18, 2020

WASHINGTON— Today, Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (IL-14) released the following statement on the Supreme Court decision on the Trump Administration-backed lawsuit to rescind protections for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival program, commonly known as DACA.

"Dreamers protected by DACA own small businesses, teach our students, coach our kids' sports teams, contribute millions to our community's economy, and have heroically served on the frontlines of the coronavirus response as our doctors, nurses, and essential workers," said Underwood. "Today's decision provides welcome temporary relief from the Trump Administration's attacks, but without Congressional action, our friends and neighbors in the DACA program are still at risk. Dreamers who grew up in this country and know no other home should have a pathway to citizenship and protection for the economic and societal contributions they make; the Senate should immediately pass H.R. 6, the American Dream and Promise Act."
