Underwood Successfully Secures Investment for Fermilab

January 6, 2020

WASHINGTON— Today, Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (IL-14) announced that her efforts to secure investments for Fermilab's top priority projects were successful. The legislation passed as a part of the bipartisan, bicameral appropriations package for Fiscal Year 2020, and was signed into law by the President on December 20, 2019. The bill provides $1.045 billion for the Department of Energy's High Energy Physics programs and allocations for Fermilab's Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility/Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (LBNF/DUNE) and Proton Improvement Plan-II (PIP-II).

"This investment will help ensure Fermilab can continue to be an international leader in science and discovery and bring world-class physicists and engineers to the 14th District to conduct important research. This additional investment will help PIP-II meet construction schedules and international commitments; I can't wait to see the project come to fruition and am so proud of the important work Fermi leads," said. Rep. Underwood.

Throughout the Fiscal Year 2020 appropriations process, Underwood has consistently fought to secure an increase in funding for the Department of Energy's High Energy Physics program to $1.045 billion —an increase that supports research at universities and national labs.
