Underwood Welcomes Alicia Wehby of Crystal Lake to Washington, D.C. to Receive the Angels in Adoption Award
Wehby was nominated by Underwood to receive the 2019 Angels in Adoption Award presented by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute
WASHINGTON— Yesterday, Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (IL-14) welcomed Alicia Wehby from Crystal Lake to Washington, D.C. to receive the 2019 Angels in Adoption Award. The Angels in Adoption award is presented each year by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute to individuals and organizations who are working to raising awareness about the millions of children around the world in need of permanent, safe, and loving homes. Wehby was nominated by Underwood to receive the award based on her commitment to helping improve child welfare in the 14th District. Following the death of AJ Freud, Alicia started the Stuff the Duffle Campaign to help provide children entering foster care with resources to help them transition into their new home. Wehby's campaign has received overwhelming support from residents of the 14th District, which enabled her to start a nonprofit called Second Bridge, which provides long term support to foster children.
"I was proud to welcome Alicia Wehby to Washington to honor and congratulate her on this much-deserved award. In the past year, Alicia has done incredible work to make meaningful change in the lives of foster children and worked to ensure that every child has the resources they need as they enter into their new home. I look forward to supporting Alicia's efforts within our community and in Congress," said Rep. Underwood.
