Underwood’s Education and Labor Committee Approves Equal Pay and Public School Infrastructure Legislation
Rebuild America’s Schools Act invests in America’s public schools, creates 1.9 million jobs. Paycheck Fairness Act ensures equal pay for equal work
WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (IL-14) today announced that the Committee on Education and Labor approved two bills she cosponsors, the Paycheck Fairness Act (H.R. 7) and the Rebuild America's Schools Act (H.R. 865). The Paycheck Fairness Act strengthens protections to ensure equal pay for equal work, which is critical to the economic security of women and their families. The Rebuild America's Schools Act invests more than $100 billion in public schools. Illinois 14th District has at least 113 schools and 29 districts that would be eligible for the funding. According to economic projections, the bill would also create more than 1.9 million good-paying jobs.
"I'm thrilled that the Education and Labor Committee's first major action was to approve two very important bills that would have real impact in the 14th District—the Paycheck Fairness Act and the Rebuild America's School Act. Prioritizing this legislation sends a strong message from the Committee: our children deserve well-funded public schools, and when we have equal pay for equal work, families succeed and the economy is stronger."
The Paycheck Fairness Act was approved by the Committee on a party line vote (27-19). To read the fact sheet on The Paycheck Fairness Act, click here. To read the section-by-section of The Paycheck Fairness Act, click here.
