[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senators Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and Dick Durbin (D-IL), along with Representatives Brad Schneider (D-IL-10), Bill Foster (D-IL-11), Dan Lipinski (D-IL-3), Sean Casten (D-IL-6) and Lauren Underwood (D-IL-14), wrote to the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) this week requesting the agency immediately begin air quality monitoring at two facilities in Lake County, Illinois, to determine whether ethylene oxide (EtO) emissions exceed safe levels.

WEST CHICAGO— Following the seventh town hall, hosted in Will County, Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (IL-14) announced that she has hosted a town hall in each of the seven counties in the 14th District of Illinois, upholding her promise to represent her constituents in a transparent, accountable, and accessible way. In addition to seven town halls, Underwood has hosted 15 events and attended over 20 community events, bringing the Congresswoman to every corner of the district including constituent office hours, roundtable discussions, and meetings with community groups.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (IL-14) responded to the Department of Justice's newly filed brief in Texas v. United States, in which the Administration asks the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals to strike down protections for people with preexisting conditions along with every protection and benefit of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). As the Administration works to limit access to health care and protections under the ACA, Underwood continues to offer solutions to help improve the ACA and lower health care costs for the American people.

WASHINGTON – In a hearing today in the House Committee on Education and Labor, Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (IL-14), pressed Department of Labor Secretary R. Alexander Acosta on the Department's regulations that deny women access to contraception and expand short-term, limited-duration health insurance plans that do not have to offer patient protections like coverage for preexisting conditions or essential health benefits. The hearing marked the Secretary's first appearance before the Committee in the 116th Congress.

The American Cures Act and the American Innovation Act would create mandatory funds to provide steady, predictable funding for breakthrough research at America's top research agencies, allowing the United States to remain a leader in development and discovery for decades to come.

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (IL-14) today announced she has introduced new legislation to address the veteran suicide public health crisis. The Veterans' Care Quality Transparency Act would ensure both the VA and outside providers are offering veterans high-quality mental health and suicide prevention services. Underwood spoke about the legislation in a House Veterans Affairs Committee hearing on veteran suicide yesterday.

WASHINGTON— On Friday, Rep. Lauren Underwood (IL-14) visited the McHenry County Adult Correctional Center. The county has a contract with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to house detainees from around the Chicagoland area and around the country. The Congresswoman toured the facility, spoke with some of the detainees, and observed meal time. As Vice Chair of the House Committee on Homeland Security, Underwood recently toured ICE facilities along the U.S. - Mexico border and found the conditions to be un-American and unacceptable.
