WASHINGTON— Today, Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (IL-14) announced that $1.5 million in federal investments for education, health care, and youth projects for the people of the 14th District of Illinois have advanced in the House of Representatives. This is the result of Rep. Underwood's advocacy to fund local projects to improve early education and college readiness, help foster youth and their advocates in the Kendall County, and support adults with disabilities and people with mental health conditions and substance use disorders.

WASHINGTON— Today, Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (IL-14) introduced the Chronic Condition Copay Elimination Act, legislation that would eliminate out-of-pocket costs for common, life-saving prescription drugs, including insulin, that are used to manage chronic conditions. The Chronic Condition Copay Elimination Act would require private health insurance plans, including high deductible health plans, to cover certain preventive care and prescription drugs without charging a copayment, coinsurance, or deductible-related fee.

Lauren Underwood (IL-14) and U.S. Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) announced that the Village of Plainfield has been awarded $5 million in federal funding to construct the eastern extension of 143rd Street, which will help alleviate traffic and improve safety for vehicles traveling through and within the Village. The funding was awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) Rebuilding America (INFRA) grant program.

Underwood's sponsored projects would deliver federal resources to improve drinking water infrastructure in the 14th District communities of Joliet, Pingree Grove, and Richmond. After they are approved by the House Appropriations Committee, the projects will advance to the full House of Representatives for approval.

WEST CHICAGO— Recently, Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (IL-14) continued to highlight how the American Rescue Plan is delivering for Illinois families through the Child Tax Credit. The American Rescue Plan expanded the Child Tax Credit (CTC) by increasing the tax credit amount for eligible families to $3,000 per child and $3,600 per child under age 6 and delivering these tax credits via monthly payments.
