U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood, along with her colleagues, introduced new legislation which aims to bolster training and jobs in the public health sector amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The Health Force and Resilience Force Act would recruit, train and employ Americans to expand the nation's public health workforce to respond to the pandemic, according to a news release.

Underwood, D-Naperville, introduced the bill with Reps. Jason Crow, D-Colorado, and Jimmy Panetta, D-California.

WASHINGTON— Today, Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (IL-14) introduced the Pandemic Accommodation to Support Students (PASS) Act to extend critical student loan relief to borrowers during the coronavirus pandemic. In March, the CARES Act suspended loan payments, interest accrual, and involuntary collections on federal student loans.

WASHINGTON—Today, Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (IL-14) led 91 members of Congress in urging President Trump to further extend critical student loan relief included in the CARES Act. In March, Congress passed the bipartisan CARES Act, which paused loan payments, interest accrual, and involuntary collections on federal student loans. These provisions were extended through executive authority by President Trump in August, but are set to expire on December 31, 2020.

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Ron Wyden, D-Ore., and U.S. Representative Lauren Underwood, D-Ill., today introduced a bill to strengthen oversight of the cybersecurity of federal agencies.

In 2015, Congress required federal civilian agencies to implement cybersecurity best practices, like data encryption and two-factor authentication. The agencies, however, have the ability to issue themselves blanket, indefinite waivers for these cybersecurity measures.

WEST CHICAGO—On Veterans Day, Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (IL-14) honored Illinois veterans by participating in the Interfaith Food Panty Veterans Day Pantry Distribution. The Interfaith Food Pantry in Aurora is one of the largest food pantries in northern Illinois and is dedicated to ending hunger in the community. During the event, Underwood joined community members to help distribute meals to Illinois veterans.

U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood's bill aiming to improve mental health care among veterans to reduce suicide rates was signed into law this past week.

The Veterans' Care Quality Transparency Act, H.R. 2372, aims to ensure both the Veterans Administration and outside providers offer veterans high-quality mental health and suicide prevention services, according to a news release.

The bipartisan bill unanimously passed the Senate on Sept. 24.

WEST CHICAGO—This weekend, Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (IL-14), member of the House Veterans' Affairs Committee, honored five local veterans from the 14th District of Illinois at a Vietnam Veteran pinning ceremony. The pinning ceremony is part of an ongoing national effort to honor all Vietnam War period veterans who served from November 1, 1955, to May 15, 1975, or their surviving family members.
