Washington, DC – Today, Lauren Underwood (D-IL) was sworn into Congress to represent Illinois' 14th Congressional District. The historic day was cemented by the passage of the Opening Day Rules Package for the 116th Congress (H. Res 6) which includes two provisions authored by Rep. Underwood that build on the 2018 update to the Congressional Accountability Act.

Lauren Underwood (IL-14) joined House Democrats to pass the FY 2019 Department of the Treasury and IRS appropriations bill to remove all doubt that hard-working Illinoisans will receive their tax refunds in full and on time. Each year, about 5,024,942 Illinois households receive an average tax return of about $2,900, which will remain in jeopardy as long as the these government agencies remain closed.
