WASHINGTON— Today, Representatives Lauren Underwood (IL-14), Jan Schakowsky (IL-9), Brett Guthrie (KY-02), and Mike Kelly (PA-16) introduced the bipartisan Lower Insulin Costs Now Act to help combat the skyrocketing cost of insulin. More than 30 million Americans are living with type I or type II diabetes, including one in four seniors and a growing number of children. Diabetes is a life-threatening disease that can lead to premature death and exacerbate other chronic conditions.
WASHINGTON— Yesterday, Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (IL-14) questioned Department of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos on the Department's failure to provide relief for students defrauded by predatory for-profit colleges. Under the Higher Education Act, students who were defrauded by for-profit colleges have access to relief from the loans they took out, but Secretary DeVos has failed to implement the law. Last week, DeVos disclosed that the credit reports of an additional 5,000 students who attended for-profit colleges were wrongly affected.

Lauren Underwood (IL-14) released the following statement after the passage of the Farm Workforce Modernization Act (H.R. 5308), bipartisan immigration legislation that modernizes and streamlines the H-2A program to ensure local businesses have access to the experienced workers they need without the red tape and extreme financial burden of the current system. The H-2A program allows business owners to apply for temporary visas for foreign workers to fill short-term seasonal jobs when American workers are not available.

The conference, led by House Armed Services Committee Chairman Adam Smith (WA-9) and Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman James Inhofe (R-OK), has worked over the last months to develop a House and Senate agreement for Fiscal Year 2020.
