The Restoring Tax Fairness for States and Localities Act (H.R. 5377) would end the burden on middle class families caused by the 2017 Republican tax law's $10,000 cap on the state and local tax (SALT) deduction. This deduction was previously unlimited.

WASHINGTON— Yesterday, Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (IL-14) questioned Department of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos on the Department's failure to provide relief for students defrauded by predatory for-profit colleges. Under the Higher Education Act, students who were defrauded by for-profit colleges have access to relief from the loans they took out, but Secretary DeVos has failed to implement the law. Last week, DeVos disclosed that the credit reports of an additional 5,000 students who attended for-profit colleges were wrongly affected.
