Over three days of bilateral meetings, panels, and discussions, Underwood emphasized the importance of America’s continued support for our allies and our commitment to global security and peace.

WASHINGTON— Representative Lauren Underwood (IL-14) introduced the Climate and Health Protection Act to strengthen the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Climate and Health Program. The CDC’s Climate and Health Program has historically been the only federal program that directly funds the state, tribal, local, and territorial health departments on the front lines of addressing climate change.

WASHINGTON – Representative Lauren Underwood (IL-14), Representative Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08), and Senator Brian Schatz (D-HI) introduced the Child Suicide Prevention and Lethal Means Safety Act, legislation that addresses suicide among children and young adults by providing evidence-based training to current and future health care professionals. Suicide is currently the second leading cause of death for young people ages 10-24.

JOLIET – Representative Lauren Underwood (IL-14) visited the new VNA Health Care Joliet Clinic to discuss local efforts to get people in the community signed up for marketplace health coverage from the Affordable Care Act during the Open Enrollment period. A historic 20 million Americans have already signed up for coverage during this enrollment period, thanks to Underwood’s Health Care Affordability Act.

JOLIET – Today, Representative Lauren Underwood (IL-14) announced that Illinois Valley Community College (IVCC) will receive $889,855 in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grants Program. The grant will help the college provide telehealth services and virtual dual credit classes to IVCC students and students at 10 partner schools in surrounding areas.
