WASHINGTON— Today, Representatives Lauren Underwood (IL-14) and John Lewis (GA-05) led 62 members of the House of Representatives in a bipartisan letter urging the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to ensure that the United States is taking all available steps to adequately understand the unique risks and effects of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in pregnant women. In the letter to HHS Secretary Azar, members noted that a stronger evidence base is needed to inform future policies to protect pregnant and postpartum women from COVID-19 risks.

U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood backed legislation to improve a federal loan program for small businesses hit hard by measures taken to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

The House of Representatives passed the bipartisan Paycheck Protection Program Flexibility Act which supporters like Underwood, D-Naperville, argued would improve the program's loan forgiveness process so small businesses can make use of the aid, according to a news release.
